Kodiak is a beautiful Alaskan Island. It is the second largest island in the United
States, however, only a small part of it is actually inhabited by humans.
Although it is mostly uninhabited, Kodiak has most things available
that is in a larger city.
We are
close to "downtown" Kodiak, (about 5 minutes or less), 15 minutes from the Kodiak Airport (ADQ) and close to the
charter planes that fly to the more outlying/remote areas of Kodiak.
This
apartment is located within a four-plex. Apartment is located about a 2 minute walk from the beach, about a 10 minute walk
to Safeway or Wal-Mart.
Kodiak
has the largest bears in the world, small black tail deer, white mountain goats, eagles, Sea Lions, Whales, Puffins, are just
some of the wildlife here on Kodiak Island. A favorite of mine is NO SNAKES. You can hike and fish to your heart’s content,
just know this is still wild country. Bears are always fairly close by, especially in the summer when the salmon are spawning.
Good news is, bears are usually more interested in fish than humans.
I know people that have lived in Kodiak for 20 years and have never seen a bear.
So you may need to do a little work if you want to see one.
Other
than bears, Kodiak is known for the abundance of different species of birds, ducks, wildflowers, salmon berries etc. Ft. Abercrombie
is a WW2 site for history buffs. This state park has bunkers and remains of what was left by the troops from WW2.
This is a full fledged state park with lakes and campsites.
We are all proud of our island and would love
to share it with you!
